COVID-19: Trump Threatens to Temporarily Suspend US Immigration

Last night, President Trump tweeted that he will sign an executive order that will temporarily suspend US immigration due to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn. No other information was provided regarding the specific details of the announced executive order.

Adomat Immigration will provide an update as soon as the order is released.

Experts expect that if an executive order is issued, it will quickly be challenged in the courts. Several of President Trump's prior executive orders were struck down or received injunctions, which temporarily blocked the enforcement of his policies.

President Trump has repeatedly pushed to limit legal - especially employment-based - immigration to the United States. Experts suggest that this tweet may be an effort to energize his supporters as he seeks re-election in November.
